With the significant rise of the micro breweries over the last decade, growlers are becoming the new way to go. In the past you had to go to a market to get decent beer, but now you are able to go to a local micro brewery and enjoy a pint. The issue is if you want to take that beer home with you.
Bottling beer is an expensive and time consuming process for small breweries, especially ones that have brew pubs and tasting rooms. To combat this, growlers are the way to get fresh beer to go. It is economically friendly (reusable containers rock) and easy to fill. There are a few drawbacks, like proper carbonation (each time you open it to pour some beer, you loose a good amount of pressure and carbonation, which will make the beer flat), as well as most growlers being glass and easily damaged (don’t drop it!).
